What is my business worth?
Pick your industry, enter roughly what you turn over, and a range appears. It takes about twenty seconds. Your profit figure is optional, and if you do not know it we will assume a typical margin for your industry and say so. Nothing to sign up for.
A guide, not a valuation: the range this tool produces is an educational estimate from the figures you enter. It is not a market valuation, is not signed, and cannot be used for tax, ATO, legal or transaction purposes. A formal, signed report starts at $1,495 + GST.
Last full financial year. Round numbers are fine.
Right now we assume an owner who is involved but not indispensable, mostly non-recurring revenue and a spread of customers. Change those if they are not you.
Pick an industry, enter your turnover, and tell us whether you know your profit. The range appears here straight away. No email, no upload, nothing to sign up for.
Educational only: the output is an indicative guide, not a market valuation, and cannot be relied on for tax, ATO, legal or transaction purposes. Multiple and margin bands are indicative bands for Australian SMEs, not evidence of what your business would transact at. Oliver Group is not a registered tax agent. Confirm anything that matters with a formal engagement or your adviser.
How the calculator gets to a number.
It applies the approach a valuer would start with on a profitable small business: capitalise the maintainable earnings. Earnings times a multiple. Everything else is detail about which earnings and which multiple.
1. Your earnings. If you enter your profit, we use it. If you do not know it, we apply a typical normalised EBITDA margin band for your industry to your turnover: roughly 20% to 30% for a medical or dental practice, 5% to 12% for hospitality. The assumed figure is shown on screen so you can see what we used.
2. An industry multiple band. Australian SMEs in the same industry tend to change hands within a broad band of earnings multiples. The bands here are deliberately wide, because real multiples move with scale, quality of earnings and deal structure.
3. Three risk adjustments. Owner dependency, recurring revenue and customer concentration are the three factors that most reliably move a small business multiple, so the calculator lets you set them. Leave them alone and it assumes a middle case.
The quick valuation calculator shows every step of the arithmetic.
What a calculator cannot see.
- ·Whether your profit figure is genuinely normalised. Owner salary, one-offs, related-party rent and family members on the payroll all move it, and that correction moves the answer more than anything else on this page.
- ·Which way earnings are heading. Two businesses with identical profit, one growing 20% a year and one shrinking 20%, are not worth the same.
- ·What comparable businesses actually sold for. Evidence supports a multiple. A generic band does not.
- ·Your balance sheet. Debt, cash, surplus assets and working capital sit between what the business is worth and what your shares are worth.
- ·Whether earnings are even the right basis. Asset-heavy, loss-making, pre-revenue and high-growth businesses usually need a different lens entirely.
If you send us your financials.
The calculator itself sends nothing anywhere. This applies only if you ask for a read-through and attach documents.
Encrypted in transit. Your inputs and documents are submitted over TLS (HTTPS), the same transport encryption your bank uses.
Encrypted at rest. Files are stored AES-256-encrypted in a private, access-controlled store on Cloudflare infrastructure. Nothing is public, indexed or shared with any third party.
Automatically deleted. Submissions expire from storage after 90 days unless a formal engagement proceeds. Want it gone sooner? Call 0433 475 518 with your reference and it is deleted on request.
